LIVE: Israel kills more than 60 people in Gaza as starvation deaths rise

  • Gaza City’s municipality warns of “extreme thirst” after its main desalination plant in the north shut down completely during Israel’s total fuel blockade.
  • The World Food Programme says Palestinians throughout Gaza are not eating for days and facing soaring malnutrition – “getting to levels we’ve never seen ever before”.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition says the Handala, a Gaza-bound aid ship, left Italy and is nearing international waters as part of a mission to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

In a post on X, the group said the boat is carrying baby formula, food and medicine “for the children of Gaza”, but emphasised the voyage’s ultimate goal is to end the need for aid by challenging what it called Israel’s “illegal siege”.

The coalition urged the public to monitor the flotilla’s progress and press their governments to uphold international law by ensuring its safe passage.

The ship is crewed by about 20 international participants, including European lawmakers, human rights activists and journalists.
